Hey there, Grammarland!

Wednesday's schedule:

9am - Homeroom
9:30- 7-1
10am - 7-2
10:30 - 8-2
12:00- 6th grade

All Zoom codes and Zoom passwords are on Google Classroom.

All students were given a Lee Christian email and password, and they need to use it for Google Classroom. By next week, I would like all work turned in on Google Classroom. If you need help with this, please let me know.

Parents, I am working diligently to get your student's excellent work graded in these new circumstances. Please allow me a few days to assess and enter work in Renweb. Google classroom is extremely helpful with this.

If you are struggling with this new virtual land we've found ourselves in, and you're worried that your child will fail, don't worry. If your child is showing up for class and communicating with teachers, we will absolutely extend grace until everyone is on the same page.

I really love that we can all connect over Zoom! I certainly miss my students.
Please let me know if I can help you in any way.

Blessings,
KD

You are doing great! If you have not signed up for Khan Academy, please do so. There are join links in last week's blog.
When you have an assignment on Khan Academy, I do intend for you to complete it. However, my goal for you is mastery of each level. So rather than completing all assignments so you can check them off your list, work at them diligently so that you master the concepts. You do not need to email me progress, because I can check it on Khan Academy. This is an excellent tool for those of you who have encountered grammar for the first time ever when you entered my class, and it helps students who are proficient with grammar to be even better.
I've also added coding, Pixar, and other cool things to your classes. Have fun with these!!!

Assignments:
Online assignments are just as important as in-class assignments. If you have not submitted assignments from last week, you must by 5pm today to receive credit for them. If I returned an assignment to you so that you can correct it, it's up to you to correct it and turn it back in.

Hey,  my new 7th grade Bible Class!

When last we met, we were talking about King Hekekiah. He was a good king who had a terrible father as his example, but he didn't let that bad example influence his reign. Hezekiah faced a scary enemy (it wasn't coronavirus; it was an terrible army), and he knew he was outmatched. What did he do? How can we look at King Hezekiah to know how to conquer our own fears?
Watch the video.
You'll  be writing about this king next week.

Click here to watch the Hezekiah video!

We have so many crazy things swirling around us. Worries about our world, our city, our school, and our families. How can we conquer these fears? Read this blog, and, if you can, leave a comment with your thoughts on this page.

I miss y'all, I love you, and I'm praying for you.

You are doing great!!!!! Just breathe!

Zoom is not the only way we're doing school. I've loaded my assignments with websites and videos and other neat stuff, so do not think you're missing something if there's no Zoom link. The Zoom platform is overwhelmed.

Great job with attendance! Keep  letting me know you're here, whether by the comment section, by Remind, or by email. Meredith asked a great question: do we have to check in every day? No. Just Mondays and Wednesdays.

Middle School Girls Prayer Group: let's plan to meet live on Monday after lunch. If this works, I'll go live for some other classes, too. Go on and download zoom. Here's the info for Monday:

Friday, March 13, 2020

Well, hello, Grammarland!

COVID-19 is closing schools around us, so I'd like to let you know that we are preparing for the possibility of this at our little school. We gathered students' email addresses so we can email them links to online classes, educational websites, and other opportunities to enhance online learning should we be forced to close. We will also post assignments on our blogs, so please be sure to check back daily for assignments.

Our 8th grade field trip to Duke was canceled. COVID-19 again. I'm sorry, and I'm disappointed, too. Thank you to all of the parents who had planned to accompany us. I returned the lunch money to students today.

8th grade:Please have a physical copy of Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl. by Tuesday, March 24.

7th Grade: At the end of next week, we will move to the book Hatchet. I have about 23 copies of this novel that I can loan out on a first come, first serve basis. Please have your child talk to me if he or she needs to borrow a book.

My 6th graders will be taking a grammar test on modifiers next week. To prepare for this, I did the Compliment Project with them today. A student sits in front of the whiteboard facing the class, while their classmates walk up and write compliments and sweet comments about them on the whiteboard behind them. Then students can see all the kind adjectives their classmates used to describe them!

Next week:
7th Bible: 2 Timothy 3:2-5 due Monday
6th: Modifier test Tuesday
7th: Number the Stars test Wednesday/Thursday
8th: SAT Quiz Friday; Secret Garden test Tuesday/Wednesday

On Monday, my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly. He was a wonderful father and an awesome granddad. I am blessed beyond belief that he knew Christ. Thank you to all of you who have prayed for us. It's been a very upsetting time. I am so grateful for my church family and for my LCS family; they have reached out with prayer and with messages of comfort.

Have a good weekend. Wash your hands, and try to stay away from the COVID drama!

Love and blessings,
KD

Friday, March 6, 2020

Happy Friday, Grammarland!

This has been a busy week. We've sold scrunchies for a dear LCS mom, written daily journals chronicling God's blessings, and learned to separate a Southern accent from having bad grammar!

8th graders: field trip permission slips are due next Wednesday. On that day, I'll pay Chick-Fil-A for our lunch, so it's important for me to know exactly how many students and parents need to order. We are going to have a blast! Remember to pack a beach towel that day!

Upcoming assignments:

7th: Vocab test Tuesday (the words are on Quizlet); Colossians 3:12-13 due March 31; Sonnet 116 due April 24

8th: "Do It Anyway" March 26; Colossians 3:12-13 due March 31. Starting Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl in two weeks. Please purchase this novel and bring it to school by Monday, March 23

6th: Grammar test next week ; study "Roads Go Ever On" - due March 19

As we continue through this season of Lent, I hope that daily we can all draw closer to Christ. Last week , seven 7th graders were saved, and I pray that this miracle will be repeated weekly. Jesus is everything.
May God bless you this weekend!
KD
